Questions & Answers for bareMinerals SPF 30 Natural Sunscreen - Medium
Question
How do you know if it's acutally on?
I followed the directions exactly, but didn't notice a difference on my skin. How do you know if you applied it correctly?
Also, I've read that it's waterproof. Is that true?

Are you talking about the sunscreen? It does not look like it is on, but as long as you followed the instructions it is on. I swim and have had no issues with burning when I use it.

I felt the same way! But then i used Prime Time before I applied my make up, and it makes such a huge difference. Also, the great thing about Bare Minerals is that the foundation isn't so heavy, so it just brings out the prettiness thats already there. I do find that if there is something I need to cover up, like a blemish (or i got scratched by a stray cat...) the maximum concealer brush works great!

Hi! I assume you are asking about the foundation (in the questions section, it doesn't seem to say which product you are asking about)? If so, I thought the same thing the first few times I used it. I eventually noticed that a minute or two after you apply the foundation, it "blooms", or shows up better. I've spoken with many, many women who say they've noticed the same thing. I don't know if it's that it sort-of "develops" with the warmth of your skin or what. One thing: DON'T make the mistake of applying more and more product just because you don't see immediate results. It'll just look really heavy if you do. You don't need too much of this stuff, and with practice you'll learn how much you need. Stick with it because this is the best foundation around! As far as being waterproof: I don't know that I'd say (in my experience) that it's waterproof per se, however, this stuff stays on amazingly well! I've worked out, done yard work, and swealtered in the heat in it, and it honestly lasts far better than any liquid foundation ever would.

Are you supposed to wear this under your normal foundation or instead of it?
It looks as if you would wear it instead of your normal foundation, but just wanted to make sure.

You can wear it alone or over/under your BE foundation. The sunblock only provides sun protection, no makeup coverage. I usually apply the sunscreen after applying my BE foundation.

Mineral veil is a finishing powder. So you wear it after your foundation. If you are extra oily you can do what they call a mv sandwich. ...put mv down, foundation, then mv again. I don't wear foundation so for me, I just use this alone. Some ladies I know use the tinted mv as their foundation. That is orangey looking on my medium beige skintone so I prefer the original which is clear & not visible on.

I do not think it provides the same coverage. If you like full coverage, you will need to use both. If you like light coverage, you will be fine with just the one. You will have to experiment to figure out what works best for you.

BE minerals NEVER expire, disregard the date. Intially the FDA made BE put expiration dates on BE because it contained SPF. SPF usually does expire, but not when it's naturally in minerals.

Usually they only expire if they have sun protection in them. It is not the product. It is the sun protection. I find that with sun protection products, it is usually still fine to use, just use a different sun screen in addition.

Chris, those are for new batches that BE creates. It is an FDA guidline that BE proves that the foundation does not expire. The FDA then knows that if the foundation is good past the "exp date," it does not expire. :)

I also wear Fairly light and I first got the light, but it's too light for me even with pale skin. I prefer the Medium, and it's not orange on me.

I take the brush off, turn to open then shake product into the cap. Re-attach brush and apply. I like this better than having to shake until the product comes through the brush. That's messy.

You don't twist to open this compact. Keep the cover closed, then tip the compact upside down & back right side up again. Now snap open the lift up lid and the perfect amount of mv will be sitting on the top of the open compact.

Vicki, are you using BE Sunscreen or a chemical sunscreen?? If you are using a chemical suncreen (i.e. Banana Boat, Coppertone) I'm not sure but I would guess before Primer. If you are using BE's mineral sunscreen, it goes on after primer. :)

I would apply the primer first, then the sunscreen. But you could skip the primer altogether if you are just wearing sunscreen.

I do not like the application system for this. I think there should be this option. I would also like to see a loose powder that you can use your own brush with. I used to like this sunscreen, but find it does not work that great. You need to use A LOT of it for it to work.

Twist the top until it clicks, then tap some powder into the lid. Swirl your brush in the lid until the powder is in the bristles. Tap the excess off into the lid. Then buff, or rub, onto your face. You can always put more powder into the lid if you need more. I tend to put the powder in the lid, apply, then repeat until i'm satisfied with the look.

You just grasp the brush-head itself and pull up firmly. There is no lock or click on the device or brush itself. It just pops on and off.

I don't take my brushes apart. I run it under warm water, lather with brush shampoo and lay it flat to dry. I don't stand them up because the water tends to run towards the wooden handle and I don't want the handle to rot.

The 100% natural sunscreen is water-resistant, but not water-proof. Reapply to dry skin like you would with any other sunscreen.

Yes, you can use this while swimming! It is water resistant but not water proof. So as with tradition in sunscreen, you will have to reapply. I use it on both my daughter and myself and reapply it when they clear the pool every hour.
