Questions & Answers for bareMinerals ORIGINAL SPF 15 Foundation - Medium Beige

Question

Is there a noticeable difference between orginial foundation and the matte foundation? Also, is medium beige a darker shade compared to medium?

Does the matte look different than the orginal?

The difference between the two is that the original will give your skin a dewy, luminous glow, whereas the matte is better suited for women who are concerned with oily skin or an oily T-zone, or those with large pores or just simply for those who really like the matte look. It does provide a tad more concentrated coverage, but not by much. Also, if you have dry skin, you will need to use moisturizer before using either, but it would be better to use the original if you have dry skin problems. Also, medium is considered "lighter" than medium beige. The medium has more of a reddish or cool undertone, whereas the medium beige has a more yellow or warm undertone. I hope this helps!!!

YES! There is a big difference between the matte and the original. The matte looks less natural to me. It also is quite drying so it looks more powder-y to me on the skin. I didn't like the matte because it was too overdrying so unless you have really oily skin, I'd stick to the original.

Orginal is more natural..Matte gives you more coverage..so it wont look AS natural as the orginal. It just depends on how much coverage you want. Matte will give you an extra boost! I prefer the original.

Medium Beige does seem a tint darker but works better if your complexion has neutral tones. I used to wear just the medium shade, but then gave the medium beige a try and it gave me more of a natural look!

Hello! Personally, I found a difference between the Original and the Matte. The Matte offers a matte finish but I didn't think it offered the same amount of coverage...it seemed I had to apply more Matte to get my usual coverage I prefer. Also, I did not think the Matte lasted as long throughout the day as the Original does. For those reasons, I prefer the Original.

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your shade question.

I have tried both the original and the matte foundation. Personally, I did not like the matte foundation. I felt that i had to put more on to get the same coverage as the original. Also, I think the medium is darker than the medium beige. I tried medium for my skin and it was too dark so I now use the medium beige.

Hello! A few years ago, BE added new shades and also changed the names of their shades. I wear a lighter shade than you so I don't know your new shade name but you could try calling a boutique to see what they recommend. With the new shades though, it might be best for you to see if you can find a store or salon near you that sells it so you can get color matched again.

Question

Why is my face itching?

I have used and dearly loved Bare Minerals foundation for several years now but I have noticed in the last year that while wearing it if I get hot and/or sweaty my face begins to prickle and itch mercilessly. It doesn't do this if I have no foundation on. Can you shed some light on this for me, please?
Thank you!

Its definitely the Bismuth. I have the same reaction. Most say if you switch to the Matte formulation you won't have that problem, however, my mother is unable to use either because of itching/redness.

Hello! Personally, when I use the foundation and mineral veil, my skin itches. So I don't use mineral veil. If it is just the foundation making you itch, you may have become sensitive to one of the ingredients....I know bismuth is an ingredient that people can grow sensitive to and may cause itchiness.

Some people seem to have a reaction to the Bismuth ingredient - the itching is the most common complaint. The Matte formula does not contain this ingredient, so you could try this formula. I also had this problem. I talked to a local BE SA, and she mentioned that matte and also suggested I either try synthetic hair brushes or just new ones. The SA told me that sometimes the natural fibers brushes can irrate the skin, especially if they are a little frayed or worn. ( I didn't take the best care of my brushes the first time) I changed my brushes, and that has helped a lot. I have also found that a good layer of primer helps. I hope this helps.

Question

Is this the correct shade after using Fairly Light and getting a tan?

I normally use Fairly Light, but I have gotten some sun recently so I'm looking for a shade that better matches my "new" skin color. Is this the one I should try first? My undertones don't appear any different than they did before, but I'm a little scared that this shade might be too dark since I'm rather pale.

Yes, it is the correct shade. If it ends up being too dark, you can mix half Fairly Light and half Medium Beige. It's what I have to do every day because I have neutral undertones but am in between Fairly Light and Medium Beige. I put some of each into the lid and just mix by swirling my foundation brush (full flawless) like normal, and the results are perfect.

I'm fairly light and when I get some summer color, I use warmth mixed with my foundation to warm it up. You only need a little bit but it definitely makes the color a bit darker. You can also use your foundation normally and use warmth all over your face to warm it up.

I usually wear Fairly Light and the next shade up that would work is Light. Light is quite a bit darker but what I have been doing is mixing the two. If you don't want to buy a full size, you can look for the Try Believe Love kits $20 with lots of smaller sized goodies including foundation all for a great price.

I'm thinking about buying the bareMinerals foundation but because it's a little pricey I want to make sure it's right for me.

I have light-medium skin with freckles and uneven skintone, also I have dark circle under my eyes; can this all be well concealed by this makeup? Also, is it long lasting or does light perspiraton make it fade?

bareMinerals is definitely worth very penny! i was skeptical at first for the same reasons as you. I would suggest also investing in a bisque concealer. It goes on underneath the foundation & works like magic. It covers up just about anything from dark freckles to acne marks. I use it under my eyes too which lightens them up dramatically. I apply my make -up once a day and may do a slight touch up to go out at night but no need to reapply everything. Your best deal and a great way to save a lot of money is to buy the 'Get Started' kits. Do some browsing on the site...not only do they offer face kits but ones for eyes, lips, & all the tutorials you can imagine for anything you may be uncertain on. They come with all the essentials to start you off bundled at an extremely reasonable price. Personally every time I need a refill (ONCE JUST ABOUT EVERY 3 MONTHS!!!) I purchase the kits to get fresh new brushes. I could talk about this make-up forever! Can you tell I'm hooked?

Hey! Yes it neutralizes your skin tone. I have uneven skin too and with even a light covering of the foundation it's evened out. Dark circles as well. For that, put an even cover all over your face and then use a smaller brush with the same foundation to dab it underneath your eyes. And perspiration may make it fade a little bit, depending on how much you're sweating. But not so much that it's noticeable. It also won't ever clog your pores. I sleep in this makeup and I live in Florida (where sweating is as prevalent as breathing! haha) and throughout the day it lasts. I hope this helps!

can teens use bare minerals too?

hello! :) i have currently taken interest in looking for the perfect foundation for myself. Being 17 i have oily skin and blemishes that i absolutely hate! i was wondering if your products are teen friendly? I have researched many different types of makeup and have tried some other products out there but all they do is clog up my pores and i break out even worse! so i have been looking at bare minerals for a bit and so far the product looks good but would it work for someone younger like myself? i hope to get a response soon :D ~phoebe

Hi Phoebe! I'm 22, but I have skin like you describe (I was a late bloomer). BareMinerals has worked wonders for me. Like you said, I used to break out all the time when I wore other makeup, but with bareMinerals my skin actually clears up the more I wear it, seriously! Not only that, but when I am having a breakout, bareMinerals covers it perfectly and I don't have to worry about the makeup making the breakout worse. Also, I recommend getting the mineral veil for oily skin as opposed to the matte foundation, I find that the matte foundation looks a little heavier on your skin than the mineral veil. Another trick with mineral veil is putting it on before you put on foundation to help keep you from getting shiny. Hope this helps! -Jessica

Hi, Phoebe. I'm not a teen, but I have oily skin... especially across my nose and forehead. I think Bare Escentuals makeup is perfect for your skin type. It is gentle on skin and doesn't include any of the pore-clogging oils and waxes that are in regular makeup. I have noticed a reduction in the number of blemishes since I started wearing Bare Minerals a few years ago. Plus, the makeup keeps you from getting that shiny look from having oily skin. Start with clean skin and try the foundation and maybe a little of the mineral veil powder (also a good oil fighter). I think you will really like it. You can get a totally natural look that will compliment your face. Then you might be tempted to glam it up with some of BE's blush and eye colors. Enjoy!

Question

I love BE but I can't ignore the outdoor/indoor differences. Help!

I'm new to BE and received Medium Tan, Warmth and Tinted MV in my GSK. However, I noticed that this seemed too dark (there were obvious shade differences between face and neck/chest) so I bought Original MV to replace the Tinted MV. While this seemed better, I look just fine indoors under yellow light even under fluorescent but I could still see a "fake tan" on my face outdoors in the sunlight. I really don't like that it gets much lighter towards my neck and chest.

Should I go up a shade or do you think I'm overthinking this and a little mismatched face-neck-chest is okay? Please look at the pictures!

If you haven't been able to find your right color yet, you could go to where they sell it and ask them to help you find your right shade. If you think your close but maybe in between two colors, try buying them both and then mixing them. Sure you buy two makeups but it will still last twice as long and it will be with the right shade for you.

You might try mixing two shades of foundations. It is a bother (and expensive) to have to buy two shades of foundation, but I find that the only way to get the right color for my face and to blend into my neck, I have to mix two colors. I have neutral undertones and light-to-medium skin, so my options are Fairly Light (very fair to light skin) and Medium Beige (medium skin). Fairly Light is too light by itself, and Medium Beige is too dark by itself, but if I put some of each into the lid and just mix by swirling my foundation brush (full flawless) like normal, the results are perfect.

The only photo that I notice a difference in your neck and chest area is the the third one. Even then it's really not that noticeable! I actually apply my minerals to my neck and any chest area that shows skin. You could try the all over face Color in Heat to add a little color to the light areas. If that doesn't work for you, go down a shade. Best of luck!

I find that the main difference between using mineral makeup and liquid, is that liquid makeup will rub off on your clothes or other peoples clothes during the day even with a powder over top. BareMinerals I find stays put on my face so when I lean in to give someone with a white collar shirt, I wont be worrying about my makeup rubbing off. Also for me, I find that liquid makeup was making my face break out, and it would make sense if you are applying it with your fingers for example. With mineral makeup, it doesn't clog my pores and it is applied with brushes that should be washed often. So since I have been using mineral makeup, my face has been a lot clearer.

I have used both as all of us have had to. Liquid makeup glides on and is shinny then you have to apply your powder to counter the shine. Also, the liquid, if you think about this, is absorbed through the skin. Powder is not. So I ask you, why apply liquid when afterwards you have to apply powder when you can apply your foundation in one easy application. It goes on and covers as well a liquid without the shine and never is absorbed in your skin. It's just common sense! One product that covers, not absorbed in skin, and no shine. Can't get any better than this.

The difference between liquid & mineral make-up is as night & day. Here's my breakdown, based on my personal experiences with the both of them:

-*-Liquid Foundation-*-

+ Covers well, depending on the brand of course.
+ Many ways to apply (i.e. fingers, sponges, brushes, etc.)
+ Many, many colors to choose from so you can find an exact skin match.
+ Some are VERY long lasting.
- You can literally FEEL it covering your face, like a mask.
- Most have LONG lists of un-natural, undesirable chemicals/ingredients.
- Clogs pores, causes break-outs if you sleep in it.
- Aren't very beneficial to your complexion.
- They tend to melt & wipe away very easily in extreme heat/humidity.
- If you choose the wrong color, NO amount of blending can help you.
- Harder to remove/wash off your face.
- Some are RIDICULOUSLY over-priced.
- You can't really layer a liquid, therefor you can't choose to go sheer to full coverage, just one or the other depending on the liquid.
- They can get super messy & stain if spilled.
- They ALL eventually seperate, glob/goop/gunk up, spoil, & EXPIRE, forcing the need to toss & replace.

~*~Bare Minerals Foundation~*~

~ Made from 100% pure, natural ingredients/minerals from the Earth.
~ Is SO PURE, you can literally sleep in it without worry of break-outs.
~ Is formulated to act as SKIN CARE, & not just make-up.
~ Improves your complexion with continued use (it is SO good for your face.)
~ Goes on creamy & smooth, even though it's loose powder.
~ Applies easily with brushes (I've even used a finger once in a while)
~ Blends easily & seamlessly.
~ You can choose your amount of coverage by layering from sheer to medium to flawlessly full.
~ You aren't covering up your face, but rather airbrushing so as to allow your natural beauty show through.
~ It does not feel like a mask, if you can even feel it at all.
~ Lasts all day (with maybe a touch up of MineralVeil finishing powder.)
~ Is easily removed.
~ The shades are very forgiving, so you don't have to find an exact perfect match to your skin.
~ The Original makes your skin look like it's healthy & glowing (while actually improving the health of your skin as you're wearing it, providing a natural 'glow' when your face is naked. =] Go figure!)
~ Never looks "caked on", unless you applied it incorrectly.
~ A little bit goes a LONG way.
~ Not ridiculously priced, & worth every single penny.
~ With the exception of the SPF, DOES NOT go bad or EXPIRE.

I used liquid for years, & from the very first time I tried bareMinerals, I NEVER looked back. I've also tried off-brand mineral make-up attempting to find a cheaper alternative & there just isn't one. NOTHING compares or even comes close. BE has made my skin look beautiful enough that I barely even need make-up, but I will always continue to use it. These words ring so true with me... Try. Believe. Love. LOVE MY BAREMINERALS, MAN!!!

Yes there is. If you turn the container upside down, on the bottom is a ridge that you can stick a coin into. What you want to do is use the coin to lift the ridge all around the bottom of the container- like opening a can of paint. The bottom of the new containers is meant to pop off so you can use what remaining foundation is left. All of the new containers have this feature! Hope this helps!!!

I do find that it gets stuck in the bottom or in the corners in the top, but if you put it up side down and give it a few taps with you nails or fingers, you can see the powder falling back to the bottom. You should find it a bit easier to dump out more powder after that. It is annoying but I usually don't have any left in the container afterwards.
